Find words from a letter pattern
The Word Pattern Solver searches for words that match known letters and unknown positions. It is helpful for crosswords, word games, hangman-style puzzles, and any clue where the shape of the word matters. Type the full pattern, using a question mark or asterisk wherever the letter is unknown.
A pattern such as ?e?r? asks for five-letter words with E in the second position and R in the fourth position. The more letters you know, the shorter and more useful the result list becomes. If you only know available letters but not positions, a letters-to-words search may be a better fit.
Pattern search tips
Always keep the pattern length exact. Extra blanks or missing blanks will change the matches. If your puzzle has excluded letters, skip any results that include those letters. For themed or cryptic clues, use the results as candidates and then check the clue's wordplay before choosing a final answer.
Common pattern questions
Can I search partial words?
Yes. Enter known letters in their exact positions and use placeholders for the rest of the word.
What if I do not know the word length?
Start with the puzzle's clue or grid to determine length first. Pattern matching works best when the answer length is fixed.
